The February PMA meeting was a great success, with interesting speakers and excellent attendance. Steve Kullberg of Florida's Natural Growers welcomed the participants and introduced Susan Clayton Black as the volunteer Executive Director of the PMA. Richard Pastor of Shaw Environmental led off the meeting with a presentation on "What Does it Mean to Be a Green Manufacturer?" He covered the topic well, emphasizing that all sustainable progress needs to incorporate a profit element so that it will continue to have a positive impact. Richard was involved in launching the WalMart emphasis on Sustainability and he included a number of helpful thoughts from his experience. The second speaker was Ruly Lopez of Rockwell Automation, sharing practical examples of sustainability and profitability from Rockwell and their customers. Jane Gshwender of Lakeland Electric facilitated a panel discussion with local energy providers Lakeland Electric and Progress Energy. They shared specific examples of how they were working with their customers to control electrical demand, introduce alternative energy sources, and expand generating capacity to meet the demands of the future. Ernie Helms shared an update from the Manufacturing Days in Tallahassee and gave an update on the PMA. The final speaker was John Warwick who provided an interactive demo of the Analytical Troubleshooting Program and shared about the upcoming training opportunities for Project Management training that are being funded by recent grants.
